No car has less defects: The Mercedes SLK comes out on top for the age group of three-year vehicles in the 2018 TÜV-Report. Technical Inspection Agencies (TÜV) found defects in a total of one third of all cars, with one in five failing the periodic technical inspection (PTI). These are the most important findings of the 2018 TÜV-Report, which the Association of Technical Inspection Agencies (VdTÜV) presented today in Berlin.
On 16 October 2017, the Doctor of Political Science succeeds Klaus Brüggemann (66), who is retiring after almost 13 years at the association's top management. In his new position, Joachim Bühler (39) also becomes a member of the VdTÜV Executive Board.
Fewer defects in periodic technical inspections (PTI) than in the previous year and a good report for German car manufacturers are the major findings of AutoBild’s 2017 TÜV-Report that has been presented in Berlin today. For the biggest German guidebook for used cars, VdTÜV e.V. (the Association of Technical Inspection Agencies) assessed almost 9 million of the statutory PTI.

The allegations are serious. If they proved to be true, we unreservedly condemn these activities. The TÜV organisations that are represented by the association VdTÜV, account for integrity and impose high standards for their work.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Stepken is the new VdTÜV Chairman until 2018. The General Assembly elected the Chairman of the TÜV SÜD Management Board unanimously on June 21st 2016. He succeeds Dr. Guido Rettig (TÜV NORD AG), who passed on the rotating bi-annual presidency.
Nearly two-thirds of all cars pass the Periodic Technical Inspection (PTI) without any notice of defect in Germany. Every fourth or fifth vehicle must be presented for a second inspection due to significant deficiencies.
